Low Fat Cooking For Weight Loss

The secret to weight loss through low fat cooking isn’t to cut all of the foods you love from your diet. It’s learning to make the foods you love in healthier ways.

If you want to lose weight, you have to burn off more fat than you consume. So cutting the amount of fat you have in your diet is the first step. And one way to do this is to substitute some of the high fat ingredients you cook with, instead using fat free or low fat alternatives.

You Can Eat Meat

A low fat diet doesn’t mean you have to give up meat. What is important is the type of meat you choose.

Removing the skin from chicken also removes a lot of the fat. With beef or pork, choose thin cuts. And if there is any visible fat on a cut of meat, trim it off.

Even on a low fat diet, you can still eat sausage and bacon. Sausages made with chicken or turkey contains less fat than beef or pork sausages. And turkey bacon is better for you than bacon make from pork. And it tastes good, too.

Cooking Your Meat

How you cook your meat also makes a difference. Chicken that has been baked, broiled or grilled is going to be lower in fat than chicken that’s been deep fried. Coating chicken with spiced breadcrumbs and then frying them can make a tasty substitute for deep fried chicken.

If you need to sauté your meat for one of your recipes, do so in a skillet that you have lightly sprayed with nonstick cooking spray.

Butter and Oil

Instead of using butter or oil to cook your eggs in the morning, spray the skillet with nonstick cooking spray instead. If you must use cooking oil, choose olive oil or canola oil over something like regular vegetable oil.

There is no denying that butter adds flavor to your dishes. But you can add flavor in other ways. For example, with egg dishes, you can experiment with all kinds of herbs and spices to give them more flavor. And, when you cook rice in fat free chicken broth, you taste buds won’t even miss the butter, and it tastes delicious! more…

Low Cholesterol Foods To Keep Your Heart Healthy

Busy lives = Fast foods

Busy lives have made arduous to find the time to eat right. Most of us just grab the nearest thing on the way, and do not even stop to think about the utility of the stuff we are eating. Trying to eat low cholesterol foods is an important part of your overall health and well being, so you should practice choosing the right low cholesterol foods when on the go, or just sitting at home for an evening. Most people turn to fast food when on the go. This is never a good idea, though there are some fast food places that provide you with a low cholesterol menu, usually they are still high in trans fats (bad fats) that cause weight gain and high cholesterol, taking the extra time to pack a lunch, even though you are busy, can mean a great deal for your health.

Preparing low cholesterol foods can make you live a longer life, and can make you feel more energized and ready to go for work or school. Fatty foods usually cause high cholesterol, which is why you should choose low cholesterol foods, but most people think that they simply do not have enough time in the day to prepare a meal, but this is not true, many meals can be prepared in as short as thirty minutes!

What Foods to Choose

When it comes to low cholesterol foods, choosing the right foods is not as hard as you might think, it can be as easy as finding something in the pantry or refrigerator and cooking it up, or it may not involve cooking at all. Foods like fruits and vegetables lower bad cholesterol. This can be a smart choice. Instead of going for cookies in the morning on your way out, grab a fruit, at lunch instead of going to a fast food restaurant, pack your own lunch such as a sandwich made with whole wheat bread, whole wheat blocks back cholesterol.

If you are planning a diet built of low cholesterol foods remember that water is a key ingredient to success. Drinking water will both make you feel full and fight bad cholesterol in your system. Mexican Food - Healthy Alternatives to Tempt Your Taste Buds

If you were scared away from Mexican food by the Center for Disease Control’s last report about it-and even if you weren’t-you may be wondering if there are any healthy choices in Mexican cuisine. Mexican food is an American favorite-even if it is just the Taco Bell variety. The key to eating healthy and enjoying Mexican cuisine is to make simple changes in the ingredients that you use and to change your preparation techniques. Before “civilization” came, centuries ago, Mexican food was very healthful. By using the key elements of beans, corn, fresh vegetables, and lean meats you can make your Mexican food healthy.

Enchiladas are a favorite Mexican dish-but they are usually loaded with fat as well. Just eliminate dipping the corn tortillas in the hot oil and soften them with a tomato or low fat broth based sauce and you can cut out a lot of calories.

Your choice of dairy products also greatly affects the fat content of your Mexican food dishes. There are lots of low fat and non fat dairy choices on the market today that you can substitute in your dishes. If you love sour cream, and don’t want to leave it out, use nonfat sour cream or nonfat plain yogurt as an alternative.

The cooking of Mexican food is where a lot of fat comes in. Look for dishes which are not fried-stay away from chimichangas and chile rellenos. Fajitas and soft tacos are good choices if they have lean meats and not a lot of dairy.

Choose corn tortillas and soften them by putting them for just a short time on a heated griddle. There are also many wheat flour tortillas on the market which are low fat, or nonfat and high fiber choices. more…
